CHWK members and City Council ratify 2 year deal
On June 25th City of Chilliwack members voted in favour of ratifying a 2 year deal. Included in the package are wage increases of 1.75% (2014) and 2% (2015). Among the agreed to improvements is the removal of a restrictive schedule previously containing the City’s flagger positions in addition to the creation of a new position titled “Traffic Control Person”. In addition to an exclusive $2.00/hour wage increase these workers will now enjoy the benefits of Regular Full Time status as Schedule A (Outside) employees. Other improvements include increased meal and boot allowance and an increase in parental leave. It is important to note that none of the City's concession proposals were agreed to by the Union.
CUPE 458 president Bryan Bickley says that “the union is pleased to conclude this professional and productive round of collective bargaining. The local looks forward to improving on the good working relationship we have built with the City as well as continuing to provide exceptional service to our community.”
