Local 458 Contracts Ratified
City of Chilliwack
On Monday, May 2nd Chilliwack City council voted in favor of ratification of the 2011 to 2013 collective agreement. City workers had previously voted in favor of ratification at a membership meeting on April 21st. The Chilliwack bargaining committee were able to achieve a 3 year term, with wage increases of 1.25% in year 1 (retroactive to Jan 1st), 1.5% in year 2, and 2% in year 3. Other improvements include a retirement severance, vision care increases, snow plowing premiums, and more.
Kent municipal workers
KENT—CUPE Local 458 workers have ratified a new three-year collective agreement with the District of Kent. The municipal workers and the Council for the District have a new deal which expires on Dec. 31, 2013. Included in the package are wage increases of 2.2, 2.2, and 2.1%, access to laser treatments under vision care and a direct pay drug card. CUPE 458 president Bryan Bickley says that "the improvements we have been able to make in this agreement are consistent with those in neighbouring communities. We are now looking forward to continuing our good working relationship with the District." CUPE 458 represents inside and outside workers in the District of Kent who provide public services for the Municipal Hall including clerical, planners, building inspectors, bylaw officers, utilities and parks and recreation, public works, drinking water distribution and the wastewater treatment plant, engineering, RCMP support and many more services.
Cultus Lake Park workers
CULTUS LAKE - CUPE Local 458 workers have ratified a new three-year collective agreement at Cultus Lake Park. The Park workers and the Park Board have a new deal which expires on Dec. 31, 2013. Included in the package are wage increases of two per cent in each of the three years. The agreement also includes increased compensation for first aid attendants and general improvements to the language including better protection on benefit coverage. CUPE 458 president Bryan Bickley says "the local is pleased to reach a deal that is in line with settlements achieved in neighboring communities. We still have some ground to make up with regards to wages, but our members recognize the current economic difficulties facing the Park and hope to achieve these goals during future negotiations. We are looking forward to building on our relationship with the Park Board." CUPE 458 represents 10 fulltime inside and outside workers at Cultus Lake Park who provide public services in the Park office including clerical, building inspection, and bylaw enforcement. 458 members in the public works department are responsible for, drinking water distribution, waste water processing, roads and building maintenance, grounds maintenance, custodial and many more services. (Unionized seasonal employees are added during the summer).
Still to ratify 2011 to 2013 agreements in Local 458 are Harrison Hot Springs and the FVRD. The District of Hope and Hope recreational have agreements expiring at the end of this year and will therefore be at the bargaining table soon.
